Siluanov: Geopolitical tensions affect financial relations between Russia and the United States

This came in a statement made by Siluanov to TASS following a meeting he held with US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent on the sidelines of the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20 countries, which was held in the American city of Asheville on August 31 and September 1.

“This was our first meeting, an introduction. Geopolitical tensions still exist between our countries today, and this undoubtedly affects relations between our financial institutions,” Siluanov said.

The Russian minister added: "We tried to find common points on financial issues. They exist, and they must be discussed."

Reuters reported on Monday that Besant told his Russian counterpart that any economic facilities or agreements were impossible before ending the Ukrainian conflict.

However, US Treasury Deputy Secretary for International Affairs Erin Brown later emphasized that it was important for Russia and the United States to maintain dialogue even in periods of conflict.
