Former world snooker champion Graham Dott jailed for sexual assault

MOSCOW, September 29 - RIA Novosti. Former snooker world champion Graham Dott has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of child sexual abuse, Sky Sports reports from the courtroom.

In August, a 49-year-old Scot was found guilty of sexually assaulting two children. The charges cover the period from 1993 to 1996 for the girl and from 2006 to 2010 for the boy. At that time, both children were of primary school age. The woman, who is now over 40 years old, contacted the police in 2001, but the investigation was not continued then. In November 2024, police contacted her again following a statement from a second victim, now in his 30s. The athlete himself denied guilt during the trial and called the charges “disgusting,” but the jury found him guilty.

On Tuesday, Dott was sentenced to seven years in real prison. The judge said the athlete "deprived the victims of a significant part of their childhood."
