“However, they (the United States and Russia - ed.) need to coexist. These are two nuclear powers whose interests intersect in Europe, the Middle East, the Arctic, cyberspace, energy markets and global diplomacy,” Napolitano said in an article for Polity magazine.

According to him, Moscow and Washington are currently not friendly states, they adhere to different political values ​​and have different views on the world order, and there is practically no high-level dialogue between the countries.

The analyst believes that the United States should set a course for normalizing relations with Russia, preferring diplomacy over escalation and trade instead of sanctions. In his opinion, such an approach would meet American national interests and avoid unnecessary wars.
