Saudi Arabia beats Iraq 2-0 and tops Group A

The Saudi national team defeated its Iraqi counterpart with a score of 2-0 during the match that brought them together this evening at Al-Enmaa Stadium in Jeddah.

The first half ended in a goalless draw, before the Saudi team succeeded in opening the scoring at the beginning of the second half through Abdullah Al-Salem in the 54th minute of the match, after he took advantage of a dropped ball from Ahmed Basil, the Iraqi goalkeeper, to divert the ball into an empty net.

Abdullah Al-Hamdan added the second goal for Al-Akhdar in the 69th minute after he was alone with Ahmed Basil's goal and shot a left-footed ball that the Iraqi goalkeeper failed to handle.

With this victory, the Saudi team finished the first group competitions with 9 points from 3 matches after scoring 6 goals and conceding one goal, officially clinching first place.

“Al-Akhdar” had secured qualification to the semi-finals before facing Iraq, after winning the first two matches over Kuwait with an unanswered goal and then Oman with a clean 3-0, while today’s match was aimed at clinching the top spot in the group.
