A man in his 20s avoided being scammed by 10 million won after reporting a voice phishing prevention notice.

(Gwangju, South Jeolla Province = Yonhap News) Reporter Min Hyun-ki = A man in his 20s who was deceived by a voice phishing organization and almost lost 10 million won, escaped the crisis by reading a police precautionary notice.

According to the Gwangju Northern Police Station on the 10th, at around 10:40 am on the 20th of last month, Mr. A, in his 20s, visited the Munheung District Police Station with 10 million won in cash and asked for help, saying, "I suspect voice phishing."

Mr. A had been defrauded for three days by a voice phishing group impersonating a prosecutor and mentioning the possibility of arrest.

It was discovered that the gang had installed a remote control application on Mr. A's mobile phone and then demanded that he withdraw cash and bring it to Seoul.

Mr. A visited a bank ATM to retrieve cash, but upon seeing a voice phishing prevention notice posted nearby, he suspected a crime and went to the police station.

The police checked the suspicious app installed on Mr. A's mobile phone and whether there was any additional financial damage.

Thanks to this, Mr. A was able to keep the 10 million won he had saved as savings while serving in the military.

A police official said, "If an investigative agency or financial institution requests payment of cash, you should suspect voice phishing. If you receive a suspicious contact, please check with the nearest police station."
