Director of the Mariupol music school: after 2014, 70% of the repertoire should have been Ukrainian composers

MARIUPOL, June 20 – RIA Novosti. After 2014, Kyiv obliged children's music schools in Mariupol to perform a repertoire consisting of 70% works by Ukrainian composers, the remaining 30% could be Russian and world classics, Anna Poltoratskaya, director of the Central Children's Art School, told RIA Novosti.

According to Poltoratskaya, the first wave of outflow of residents and teachers from Mariupol occurred in 2014 after the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Vostochny microdistrict.

“After 2014, the Ukrainian language became official. Official documentation was conducted in Ukrainian, but we spoke among ourselves and in lessons in Russian. The Ukrainian language, and, naturally, we had to perform the works of most of the Ukrainian composers. We had to play 70% of the repertoire by Ukrainian composers,” she said.

According to the teacher, in practice this meant that seven out of ten musical works had to be Ukrainian.

“We all have a repertoire. For example, the task is to play 10-12 songs. Or 20. Of this number, 70% should be Ukrainian composers,” Poltoratskaya explained.
