2026 World Science, Technology and Development Forum opens in Chongqing

China News Service, Chongqing, October 21 (Reporter Zhong Yi and Zhou Yi) The 2026 World Science and Technology and Development Forum, hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, opened in Chongqing on the 21st.

With the theme of "Collaborative Evolution: Shaping the New Ecosystem of Future Industries", this forum invited about 800 guests, including domestic and foreign academicians and experts in science and technology, education, economics and other fields, relevant heads of international science and technology organizations, heads of high-tech enterprises and young science and technology talents, to gather in the mountain city to carry out academic sharing and scientific and cultural exchanges.

At the opening ceremony, the annual "Top Ten Science and Technology Foresights" were released, and the launching ceremony of the "Open Cooperation·International Science and Technology Humanities Exchange Series" was held. At the same time, the results of parallel forums such as the industrial map in the field of intelligent sensing, the international standards of the International Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance, and the "Top Ten Issues of CCUS in 2026" were released. The "Memorandum of Understanding between the China Association for Science and Technology and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations" was also signed at the meeting.

Wang Guangqian, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, said that future industries are the forefront of the integration of science and technology and economy and an important carrier for cultivating new productivity. China's science and technology community is willing to work with all parties to target the frontiers of science and technology, open up new frontiers for future industries, and explore new sources of power for economic growth; practice green development, cultivate new forms of ecological civilization, and fully implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; uphold good intentions, elevate science and technology governance to a new realm, and promote science and technology to better benefit mankind. This forum will last until October 23 and has four topics: "Enabling the Future: Frontier Sensing and Digital Cornerstones", "Defining the Future: Intelligent Products and Advanced Manufacturing", "Reshaping the Future: Green Energy and Low-Carbon Systems" and "Watching the Future: Global Challenges and Collaborative Governance" , organized 12 parallel forums, covering areas such as intelligent perception, simulation technology, engineer cultivation and development, embodied intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, industrial design, smart materials, green hydrogen energy, CCUS technology, new energy vehicles, comprehensive health and biosecurity, deep space exploration, etc.

Technology visits are a major attraction of this forum. Guests attending the conference will be divided into four groups to carry out on-site visits along the four routes of "Smart World·Energy Revolution and Future Industry Exploration", "Hard-Core Intelligent Manufacturing·Embodied Intelligence and Gigafactory Tour", "Life Code·Germplasm Creation and Biotechnology Prospects" and "Urban Pulse·Transportation Hub and Urban Planning Visit" to intuitively experience the innovative ecology and open cooperation potential of Chongqing in accelerating the construction of a western science and technology innovation highland and concentrating efforts to build a manufacturing hub.

It is reported that the World Science, Technology and Development Forum was launched by the China Association for Science and Technology in 2019. This is the first time the forum has landed in Chongqing. As an important manufacturing town in the country, Chongqing has accelerated the construction of the "33618" modern manufacturing cluster system and built a total of 5 global "lighthouse factories".
