The 2026 Interdisciplinary Frontier International Academic Forum on Sports Performance in Badminton and Football Opens in Guangzhou

From basic research on exercise physiology and biomechanics to the scenario-based implementation of artificial intelligence, wearable devices, and big data analysis, cutting-edge technology is systematically reshaping the entire chain logic of competitive training, talent selection, injury protection, and physical fitness regulation, and promoting the transformation of sports projects from traditional experience-based to standardized, precise, and professional development models.

The 2026 Interdisciplinary Frontier International Academic Forum on Sports Performance in Badminton and Football (referred to as the "Forum") opened on the 12th at the National Badminton Academy of Guangzhou Institute of Sport. Experts and scholars from China, the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries and regions gathered together to conduct interdisciplinary exchanges around the improvement of sports performance in the two major sports of badminton and football.

It is reported that this forum has 9 conference theme reports, two parallel sub-forums on badminton and football, and expert roundtables, covering multiple cutting-edge directions such as intelligent training technology, and promoting the transformation between basic research and on-field applications.

At the forum, Professor N. Timothy Cable of Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK systematically reviewed the development and evolution of football science, pointing out that artificial intelligence and digital twins will promote the transformation of football scientific research from data collection to precise decision-making.

Professor Mark A. King of Loughborough University in the UK analyzed the technical characteristics of badminton and other racket-holding events from the perspective of sports biomechanics, revealed the relationship between action mechanisms, sports performance and injury risks, and highlighted the value of biomechanics research services for special training.

Professor Olivier Girard from the University of Western Australia, Australia, gave an in-depth introduction to the latest progress in high-altitude hypoxic training, emphasizing that individual differences among athletes should be paid full attention to and precise training intervention implemented.

Professor Gao Binghong of Shanghai Sport University focused on the special agility quality of badminton and proposed the organic integration of sports cognition, special decision-making and action execution to promote the coordinated development of agility training towards the brain and body. (over)
