Fred Vasseur, president of Ferrari, a competitor in the Formula 1 world championship, described the speculation surrounding his future as “frustrating,” after comments by former Red Bull president Christian Horner, in an interview, sparked rumors about the possibility of the Briton moving to the Italian team.
Horner, who was sacked by Red Bull in July last year, told The Times in an interview published last week that Ferrari would be the only team he would consider joining without the offer including an ownership stake in the team.
He then described the team as “the dream” and “the sleeping giant of Formula 1.”
Vasseur, who took over as Ferrari president in January 2023, said after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Saturday: “We do not work in complete silence. “Firstly, for me, for everyone in the team, and for the media, because 50 percent of the questions are about this topic, I think the situation is a little frustrating.”
Horner, who returned to the Formula 1 circuit during the British Grand Prix a year after his dismissal in 2025, headed the Red Bull team for 20 years.
It led him to win eight World Drivers' Championship titles, four with Sebastian Vettel and the same with Max Verstappen, and six Constructors' Championship titles.
Horner (52 years old) also made headlines in 2024 after a female employee accused him of inappropriate behavior, but he was acquitted of this charge after an investigation.
Speculation has continued about Horner's return to Formula 1 since his dismissal, as the Briton has been particularly linked to the Alpine team, owned by Renault, and the Aston Martin team, which is based in Silverstone.
The Chinese national team suffered a severe loss as part of its preparations to participate in the 2027 Asian Nations Cup, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Chinese team lost 0-3 to the New Zealand team, in the friendly match that was held between them on Sunday.
Tyler Bindon opened the scoring for the New Zealand national team early in the 4th minute, and his teammates Ben Wayne and Owen Parker-Pryce added the second and third goals in the 29th and 82nd minutes, respectively.
This loss comes as a painful blow to the Chinese national team's preparations for the continental competition, which begins early next year, as the group stage draw placed it in the third group, along with the teams of Syria, Iran and Kyrgyzstan.
On the other hand, this was the first appearance of the New Zealand national team after participating in the World Cup finals, this summer, in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Frenchman Kyrian Jacquet continued his adventure in the Hangzhou Tennis Championship, after qualifying for the semi-finals of the men's singles competition currently held in China, for the first time in his sporting career.
Jacquet qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament, after defeating Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, the sixth seed in the competition, with a score of 7-6 (14-12) and 6-4, on Sunday, in the quarter-finals.
Jacquet, who caused a huge surprise by defeating Argentine Thomas Martin Echeverry, the third seed in the tournament, in the second round, maintained his successful campaign in the competition with a strong performance against Marozsan.
In their first direct confrontation, Jacquet saved three set points during the tiebreak in the first set, before saving two break points while serving to win the match, with the score indicating a 5-4 lead in the second set.
Jacquet said after the match: “It was a great match.” I had to stay focused throughout the fight because it was very difficult. I'm really happy with my performance today, with my fighting spirit, and with everything else. It was a strong performance and that's why I won. “I am really proud of myself.”
Jacquet needed an hour and 47 minutes to pass the Marozsan obstacle, setting up a difficult match with Russian Andrey Rublev, the second seed in the tournament, who defeated Frenchman Hugo Gaston with a score of 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
The Russian Roman Safiulin also claimed the ticket to the semi-finals, after defeating the Chinese Yunchao Kitty Po with a score of 6-3, 6-3, to meet in the next match with the winner of the match between the Russian Daniil Medvedev, the first seed in the competition, and Chuck Lam Coleman Wong, from Hong Kong.
