On June 22, Russia celebrates the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow - a memorable date of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. On this day in 1941, in the early morning, while everyone was still sleeping, Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union and struck cities hundreds of kilometers inland.
The Great Patriotic War lasted 1,418 days and claimed the lives of 26.6 million people - both military and civilians of the USSR.

Since 2018, the world has celebrated Bathing Day, founded by the Bathe the World Foundation to remind people that not everyone has access to clean water and proper hygiene. World Rainforest Day
Since 2017, World Rainforest Day has been celebrated around the world on June 22. The holiday was founded by ecologists from the American organization “Tropical Forest Partnership” to tell all people on Earth about how important it is to preserve the tropics in their original form.

Erich Maria Remarque (1898 - 1970)
On June 22, the German writer Erich Maria Remarque was born. At birth he received the name Erich Paul Remarque, but changed his middle name in 1918 when his mother Maria died. It is interesting that before his writing career and even a little during it, the author managed to work as a seller of tombstones and an organist in the chapel of a mental hospital.
Remarque is a recognized classic of 20th-century literature; his most popular books have been filmed 19 times.
Natalya Varley (79 years old)
On this day in 1947, Natalya Varley was born in Romania, a future Soviet actress who became famous after her role as student Nina in the film “Prisoner of the Caucasus.” She did not limit herself to an acting career: Varley graduated from the capital’s circus school and worked as a tightrope walker at the Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard.
The actress acted actively in films until the mid-1990s, after which she chose to dub TV series.
