The Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation plans to update the Federal State Educational Standard for preschool education. The changes are aimed at changing teaching methods in kindergartens.
The Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation will expand the format of teaching preschoolers in the new standard for kindergartens; children will learn through play, creativity, reading, observation and experiments, Elena Berbina, teacher of the year 2026, told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, Sergei Kravtsov, told RIA Novosti that the department will update the standard of work for kindergartens; the emphasis will be placed not on children learning letters and numbers, but on their acquaintance with their native culture, literature, customs and moral guidelines.
“In the updated Federal State Educational Standard of preschool education, the teaching component will remain. This is not about preschoolers being stopped being taught. On the contrary, learning is embedded in the broader context of the child’s personality development. Learning in kindergarten occurs through play, creativity, reading, observation, experimentation, conversation, and joint activity. This is not a lack of learning, but another, age-appropriate form of learning,” Berbina said.
According to her, when a child plays shopping, he can count, compare, negotiate, distribute roles; when he listens to a fairy tale, he develops speech, imagination and at the same time discusses the actions of the characters.
The teacher noted that in kindergarten it is important to prepare a child for school psychologically and emotionally, to develop his ability to engage in new activities, interact with adults and peers, accept rules, cope with difficulties, and show independence.

French Education Minister Edouard Geffret said that about three thousand teachers will begin work in the coming hours in schools in the country, where a “very problematic” situation has developed. Thanks to a special program, 114 lyceums with “red status” and 400 with “orange” status were identified. Principals are allowed to hire additional teachers in excess of the limits, and schools will be allocated funds to pay for the additional workload under the “teacher pact” program. The measures are estimated to cost several million or tens of millions of euros. The decision comes amid protests by high school students who have been blocking educational institutions since mid-September.
