On the 19th, the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine and the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Examiner's Office announced the results of a study showing that the risk of death from heat stroke increases when the maximum daytime temperature exceeds 27.1 degrees Celsius. The research team analyzed the 1,447 people who died of heatstroke in Tokyo's 23 wards between 2013 and 2023, based on the weather conditions at the time of discovery, the presence or absence of air conditioning, and autopsy results. The results showed that not only does the risk of death increase when the daytime maximum temperature exceeds 27.1 degrees Celsius, but when the temperature exceeds 33 degrees, the risk of death is more than three times higher for people who do not have air conditioning installed compared to those who use air conditioners. The risk increases as the temperature rises, reaching seven times higher at 36 degrees Celsius.
