Mackerel fishing boat fire off the coast of Pohang... 28 crew members evacuated safely

(Pohang = Yonhap News) Reporter Dae-seong Son = On the 4th, a mackerel fishing boat that was fishing off the coast of Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do caught fire, and 28 crew members were evacuated to another fishing boat.

According to the Pohang Marine Police Station, a fire broke out inside the 129-ton mackerel fishing vessel A, which was sailing about 51km east of Homigot Port, Homigot-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, at around 6:38 am.

The crew attempted to extinguish the fire on their own, but when the fire did not go out, the fishing boat they were fishing with towed A and entered Guryongpo Port in Pohang around 4 p.m.

The coast guard and fire authorities carried out firefighting operations at Guryongpo Port.

All 28 crew members were evacuated to another fishing boat and there were no casualties.

Pohang Marine Police Station plans to investigate the exact cause of the fire as soon as the fire is extinguished.
