An INSA poll for the Nordkurier newspaper showed that less than 10% of Germans in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are ready to vote for the CDU in the upcoming regional parliamentary elections.

Elections to the state parliament (Landtag) of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are scheduled for September 20. Elections to the Berlin Chamber of Deputies are scheduled for the same day. Politico noted that these elections could be another blow to Merz after the defeat of his CDU party in Saxony-Anhalt. Against this background, discussions about his possible replacement as chancellor intensified among German conservatives.

“No new events have been agreed upon with the chancellor... In the remaining days, the main thing for us is to convey our program to voters,” Peters said in an interview with Welt TV, commenting on the presenter’s remark that before elections the party chairman usually comes to support the leader of the electoral list.

According to Peters, the CDU “suffers” from the fact that Germans do not approve of the policies pursued by the German authorities.
