Informed sources revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the future of Italian coach Inzaghi is at the table of the sports management at Al-Hilal Club, through Scottish sports director Richard Hughes, to consider options related to the future of the technical staff, following the team’s 0-2 loss to NEOM, and in light of a comprehensive evaluation of the technical path during the next stage.
According to the sources, opening the file does not mean that a decision has been made regarding Inzaghi’s future, as the sports administration will continuously monitor the team’s technical performance indicators during the period preceding the hiatus related to the 2027 Asian Cup, which begins on December 16 and continues until February 11, 2027.
The crescent vision revolves around two paths: The first is if the team's technical performance indicators show a decline or an inability to restore the required format, and then the option of change will be on the table during the long Asian hiatus, giving the new technical staff sufficient opportunity to work with the team before the resumption of competitions.
As for the other path, it is linked to the emergence of an upward technical curve during the period preceding December 16, whether in terms of performance, results, or team stability. In this case, Inzaghi will continue to lead Al Hilal until the end of the season, in conjunction with the sports administration’s move to agree with a new coach to take over the task starting next summer.
The sources confirmed that up to this moment there are no specific coaching names that the sports administration has entered into negotiations with, as the current stage is focused on monitoring the technical indicators and determining the path first, before moving on to choosing the coach who is compatible with the club’s sports project.
The sources explained that the sports administration did not build the team during the last period according to special requirements for Inzaghi or to serve his technical plan alone, but rather the list was formed according to a technical identity and a tactical philosophy that the administration wants Al Hilal to continue, which makes the team’s structure not linked to a specific coach.
This approach gives the sports administration greater flexibility in dealing with the next stage, as the criterion when selecting any new coach will be the extent to which his philosophy and style are compatible with the technical approach on which the roster was built, without the need for extensive restructuring of the team with every change in the technical staff.
The coaching market currently includes a number of prominent international names available, led by Spaniard Pep Guardiola and Frenchman Didier Deschamps, while the list includes other names, including Dutchman Arne Sloat, Englishman Gareth Southgate, Portuguese Roberto Martinez, German Julian Nagelsmann, Danish Thomas Frank, Frenchman Rudi Garcia, and Englishman Eddie Howe.
According to the sources, the presence of big names available in the market does not necessarily mean that they will enter Al Hilal’s options circle, as compatibility with the technical school adopted by the sports administration in building the team will be an essential factor when choosing the next coach, at a time when the philosophy of a number of currently available coaches does not fit with the technical approach targeted by the Blue Administration.
Inzaghi has a contract with Al Hilal that extends until June 30, 2027, which means that the option to continue him until the end of the current season coincides with the end of his contract, if the team’s technical indicators continue their upward curve during the period preceding the Asian pause.
On the other hand, the circle of distinguished global coaches is not limited to names available without contracts, as a number of prominent options are linked to long contracts with their clubs, including the Spanish Unai Emery, the English coach of Aston Villa, whose contract with the club extends until 2029, which makes access to some names that may be compatible with Al Hilal’s technical project also linked to their contractual status with their clubs.
The NEOM team is preparing for the first foreign experience in its history, with the unveiling of the dates of its matches in the Gulf Champions League for the 2026-2027 sports season, in a participation through which it seeks to confirm its presence on the Gulf arena, in parallel with its local competitions.
NEOM will begin its tournament campaign on October 13, 2026, when it hosts the Yemeni Hadhramaut people at the National Club Stadium, in a confrontation that represents the starting kick for the team in the competition, during which it hopes to achieve a strong start that will give it an early advantage in the competition journey.
NEOM will return to the atmosphere of Gulf competitions approximately two weeks later, when it will be a guest of the Omani youth on October 27, 2026, in the match scheduled to be held at the Rustaq Complex, within the second round.

On November 3, 2026, NEOM will host its Qatari counterpart, Al-Duhail, at the National Club Stadium, in one of the team’s most prominent confrontations during the group stage.
Facing Al-Duhail represents a strong test for NEOM, given the great experience that the Qatari team possesses at the Asian and Gulf levels, in addition to its possession of a group of distinguished elements.
NEOM's confrontations with Al-Duhail do not stop at the first leg, as the date between the two teams will be renewed on November 24, 2026, when it will be a guest of the Qatari team at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, in the return match.
NEOM will continue its journey in the tournament with a second confrontation against the Yemeni people of Hadramaut, but this time outside its homeland, on December 9, 2026, with the stadium to be determined later.
The confrontation will be an opportunity for NEOM to strengthen its score before entering the final stage of the group stage, especially since the results of the previous matches will have a direct impact in determining the qualification calculations.
NEOM will conclude its matches in the group stage by facing Al-Shabab of Oman on February 16, 2027, in the match hosted by the National Club Stadium.
