Russian man detained on suspicion of treason on instructions from Ukrainian blogger

A Russian was detained on suspicion of collecting information about employees of the British embassy in Moscow on the instructions of a Ukrainian blogger.

A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Treason).

For a crime under the article of treason, a citizen may face imprisonment for up to 25 years or life imprisonment.

The FSB on Thursday announced the detention of an SBU agent - a Russian who worked in an organization guarding the British Embassy in Moscow. On instructions from the Ukrainian blogger Karpenko (Apostle Dmitry), he collected information about embassy employees, including their residential addresses, as well as information about the security system of the diplomatic mission and the events held there. A criminal case has been initiated against the Russian under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Treason).

The lawyer explained that for crimes under the article on treason, a citizen may face imprisonment for a term of up to 25 years with a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles or in the amount of wages or other income of the convicted person for a period of up to three years. “The maximum punishment is life imprisonment,” Bachurina said.
