Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, open contest for ‘Seoul-type integrated operation school (Ieum School)’ to open in March next year

Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Bo-ram = The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 14th that it will open a public offering for a 'Seoul-type integrated operation school (Ieum School)' that will begin operation in March next year.

Ieum School is a school operated by integrating two or more schools of different levels. Currently, there are five schools in Seoul, including Gangbit Elementary and Middle School, Haenuri Elementary and Middle School, Seoul Sports Middle and High School, Jamsil Girls' Middle and High School, and Ewha Geumran Middle and High School attached to Ewha Womans University.

Private schools are designated through a public contest, and public schools are designated by the Office of Education's own designation after collecting opinions from schools.

To be eligible, more than 50% of parent respondents must agree through briefing sessions for students, parents, and faculty.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education determines the Ieum school by comprehensively considering the school site, size, and number of students.

When a school becomes an Ieum school, it receives support from the Office of Education in accordance with the Local Education Financial Grant Act.

If the facility is not closed, it will receive 1 billion won. If the facility is closed, elementary schools will receive 4 billion to 6 billion won, and middle and high schools will receive 9 billion to 11 billion won.

Jeong Geun-sik, Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “There is a need for a transition to a flexible future school system that responds to the rapid decline in the school-age population and the entry into the era of artificial intelligence (AI),” and added, “We will actively support Eum School so that it can operate smoothly in school settings.”
