On a single voting day in 2026, elections of deputies to the State Duma of the ninth convocation and direct elections of senior officials will be held in 8 regions of Russia.

Voting will take place over three days, from September 18 to 20.

MOSCOW, September 17 - RIA Novosti. Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova warned about the risks associated with the possibility of generating fake videos from polling stations using artificial intelligence and replacing images in video broadcasts directly online.

She recalled that given the rapid development of AI technologies, “incredible possibilities for generating all kinds of fakes” appear. The head of the CEC mentioned that the electoral system had encountered this in previous elections: there were cases of substitution of personnel from polling stations, fabrication and falsification of videos.

“Now this is reaching a completely new level when you can replace a picture online. So, a person at a polling station does this and that, but with the help of artificial intelligence, in the event of an unauthorized intrusion, he will do something completely different,” Pamfilova warned, speaking about the organization of video surveillance in the upcoming elections.
