WASHINGTON, September 29 – RIA Novosti. The level of trust in the media among Americans is only 33% and remains at almost the lowest level in 50 years, according to data from a new Gallup Media poll, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti.

"Americans' trust in the media has improved from last year's record low, although it remains weak by historical standards. Now 33% of American adults say they have 'very' or 'fairly' confidence that newspapers, television and radio cover the news 'completely, accurately and fairly.'" A year ago, that figure was 28%, the survey said.

According to the statistics presented there, both of these indicators are among the three lowest in the last half century. The record was set in 1976, when 72% of Americans trusted the media.

It is noteworthy that this time the indicators were divided into three absolutely equal groups. Another 33% of respondents either do not trust the press at all or do not trust it very much.

Republicans' attitudes toward the media have nearly tripled during President Donald Trump's administration, from a record low of 8% in 2025 to 22%. The Democrats are experiencing the opposite process: now 50% trust the media. The decline in trust among them occurs gradually, but over four years it has already amounted to 20%.
