WASHINGTON, June 22 - RIA Novosti. Reports that negotiations between the United States and Iran have allegedly broken down and that Tehran is demanding an apology for statements by US President Donald Trump about possible new attacks on the republic are untrue, the White House press pool claims.

On Sunday, technical negotiations between Iran and the United States were held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with the participation of mediating countries - Pakistan and Qatar. Amid the meetings, Trump threatened Iran with new strikes if it does not force pro-Iranian groups in Lebanon to stop “creating problems.” Later, media reported that the Iranian negotiating team left the negotiations because of Trump's words and did not intend to return to discussions until the American president apologized.

“Contrary to widespread false information, the Iranians are still here (in Switzerland - ed.) and negotiations are ongoing,” the pool quotes a statement from an unnamed American official made during the negotiations.

The official noted that during the negotiations, issues of Tehran's nuclear program, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and a mechanism for establishing a ceasefire in southern Lebanon were discussed.

“Active discussions have taken place on all elements of the nuclear deal. We plan to continue to work on each of these issues and use the results of the discussions as a starting point for continuing technical negotiations in the future,” the official was quoted as saying.

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that the Iranian delegation went to Tehran after negotiations with the United States in Switzerland. He noted that the delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, held 18 hours of consultations.
