Iranian Foreign Ministry calls US sanctions "economic terrorism"

The Iranian Foreign Ministry, after the US authorities announced an economic operation against Tehran, called Washington's sanctions economic terrorism.

Earlier, US authorities announced the start of an economic operation against Iran, calling on allies to join Washington.

“Of course, US economic sanctions against Iran, which will jeopardize the fundamental rights of every Iranian citizen, are akin to economic terrorism and a crime against humanity,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The department noted that sanctions resulting from two conflicts that occurred over the past year and a half add to the “list of US crimes against Iran”, represent a continuation of a policy that has proven its failure, and will not affect Tehran’s determination to defend its independence and sovereignty.

“The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemns US steps to strengthen illegal sanctions against the Iranian nation and emphasizes that Iran is determined to protect national interests, ensure security and counter the military, political and economic onslaught of the United States,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry added.
