Miaoli Menghua Literary Award announced, Li Kuanhong’s new poem wins first prize

[Reporter Cai Zhengmin/Miaoli Report] The Miaoli County Government Education Department announced today (23rd) the list of winners of this year’s Dream Flower Literary Award. Among the main category lists, the first prize in the new poetry category was won by Li Kuanhong’s work "Longgang: The Collection of Light"; the first prizes in the prose, short story, and reportage categories were missing.

The County Government Education Department pointed out that the first prize in the new poetry category was won by Li Kuanhong's "Longgang: Collection of Light", and the top prize was Xu Shengxiong's "Indigo-Remembering the Hakka Indigo Dying Years"; the three top prizes in the prose category were Chen Yuchuan's "Between the Mountain Line and the Sea Line", Lin Suzhen's "Salted Pork in Diao Liang", and Chen Junzhi's "Echoes of the Pickle Urn"; short story category The top two winners are Xu Lijuan's "Looking from a Distance" and Xie Shufan's "The Elephant No One Approaches"; the two top picks in the reportage category are Lin Weiyu's "After the Lanterns Are Lighted: Hutou Mountain, the Shrine that Is More Than Japanese" and Chen Liqiang's "Midsummer in the Midwinter: Remembering the Resilience and Long Night Watch of a Family with Spinal Muscular Atrophy".

Among them, the Education Department stated that "Longgang: Collection of Light" shows a highly mature and self-disciplined ability to adjust poetic language, casting modern management thinking into a special modern poetic flavor; "Indigo - Remembering the Hakka Indigo Dyeing Years" follows the labor process and successfully sublimates manual labor at the material level into the inheritance of collective memory at the spiritual level.

As for the short stories, "Looking from a Distance" is in the film style of Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, depicting the daily scenery and life encounters in the sea mist in the villages along the Tongxiao sea line; "The Elephant No One Approaches" adopts "prose-like" novel techniques to resolve dramatic conflicts and build rare daily auspicious moments around small characters on campus.

For prose, the Education Office pointed out that "Between Mountain Lines and Sea Lines" uses the journey between mountains and seas to find self-identity and belonging; "Diaoliang Salted Pork" has a unique concept and a humorous tone; "Echoes in the Pickle Urn" has concise words and analyzes the subtle philosophy of life through the process of pickling pickles.
