Medical device development and verification support... Up to 500 million won invested in 4 companies over 2 years

The Wonju Medical Device Industry Promotion Agency announced on the 15th that it will begin recruiting demonstration companies in 2026 for the 'Digital Twin Convergence Medical Innovation Leading Project', which applies digital twin technology to the medical device development process.

This project is being promoted with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and Wonju City, and targets domestic medical device manufacturing and development companies that will develop and verify the performance of digital twin-based medical devices.

The recruitment fields include a total of 4 companies, including medical devices related to diabetes, hearing loss, and musculoskeletal diseases, and open recruitment fields.

Selected companies will receive up to 500 million won in project expenses over two years.

Up to 200 million won will be invested in the first year, and up to 300 million won will be invested in the second year. Additional points are also given to companies located in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province or companies that relocate their headquarters or research centers to the province within one year of selection.

Companies participating in the project can use the digital twin integrated platform, which consists of a medical device development system, AI analysis system, and medical device simulation system, for free.

Through this, it is possible to perform 3D design and data management, AI analysis based on clinical data, and interaction simulation between medical devices and human body models.

In addition, professional organizations such as Yonsei University Future Medical Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, Sangji University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and Gangwon Techno Park will participate to provide clinical verification, security and standardization verification, and market entry support.

Applications for the project can be made by email until 6 p.m. on June 30, and final support recipients will be selected through suitability review, presentation evaluation, and on-site inspection.

An official from the Agency said, "We expect that by utilizing digital twin technology and extensive clinical data, we will be able to reduce the time and cost of medical device development and increase the likelihood of commercialization success."
