50.9% oppose the constitutional amendment for a four-year presidential term... 46.0% in favor, poll

Regarding the discussion on the constitutional amendment to reorganize the power structure, a public opinion poll was released on the 20th showing that negative evaluations of the constitutional amendment to change the presidential four-year term system or reappointment system outweigh positive evaluations within the margin of error.

As a result of a survey of 1,017 people over the age of 18 across the country conducted by Realmeter on the 18th and 19th at the request of the Energy Economy Newspaper, 50.9% were against and 46.0% were in favor of the constitutional amendment for a four-year consecutive term or reappointment system for the president.

‘I don’t know’ was 3.1%.

By region, opinions in favor of the constitutional amendment to the midterm/two-term system were dominant in Jeollanam-do and Gwangju and Jeonbuk (64.0% in favor, 35.2% against), but there were many opposing opinions in Daegu and Gyeongbuk (36.6% in favor, 61.3% against).

Opinions were dominant in Incheon and Gyeonggi (47.3% in favor, 50.6% against) and Daejeon, Sejong and Chungcheong (45.3% in favor, 49.0% against).

By age, opposing opinions were overwhelming among those aged 18 to 19 (27.7% in favor, 68.7% opposed) and those in their 30s (37.0% in favor, 58.3% opposed).

Those in their 40s (54.2% in favor, 45.1% against), those in their 50s (53.1% in favor, 45.8% against), and those in their 60s (54.1% in favor, 41.9% against) were more likely to agree.

Among those aged 70 or older (45.4% in favor, 49.9% opposed), there were 4.5 percentage points more people opposed than in favor.

Regarding the plan to shorten the incumbent president's term and hold a presidential election early in order to reform the presidential term system and coincide with the presidential and general elections, 43.6% and 48.5% were in favor and against, respectively.

Regarding the plan to apply this to the incumbent president and allow him to run again if a constitutional amendment related to the presidential term is made, 61.7% of respondents opposed it, which was 27.0% points higher than those in favor (34.7%).

This survey was conducted using a random dialing (RDD) automated response survey using a wireless (100%) randomly generated sampling frame, and the response rate was 3.7%. The sampling error is ±3.1%p at the 95% confidence level.
