A domestic dispute with a dramatic ending

The intervention concerned by the investigation took place on October 6 in the evening. It was taken based on a report from the family of a man who, in a state of severe arousal, was having a row in the family apartment and threatening to use a knife. An ambulance was also called to the scene, reports Mariusz Pindera, spokesman for the Wałbrzych prosecutor's office.

According to information provided by the Municipal Police Headquarters in Wałbrzych, a few days before his death, the 42-year-old was in hospital. The man had a record of various crimes.

The police talked to the 42-year-old for several dozen minutes and urged him to drop the knife. At one point, the officers distracted the man and his mother fled the room. During this time, the father, who has mobility problems, moved closer to the intervening policemen - they report.

One of the policemen used a stun gun

Despite the passage of time, the 42-year-old was still aggressive. He overturned a glass table and broke the glass in the door behind which the police were standing. A moment later, he moved towards them with a knife and a table leg, threatening them with death. Then one of the officers used a stun gun.

The 42-year-old was overpowered and taken out of the apartment in handcuffs. He was transferred to the care of an ambulance. He was still aggressive, so he was secured on a stretcher with special belts.

During the activities performed by medics, the man suddenly began to lose his breathing and consciousness, and then his heart stopped. Unfortunately, resuscitation, lasting several dozen minutes, did not lead to the restoration of vital functions - writes the Municipal Police Headquarters in Wałbrzych.

The investigation is being conducted into the abuse of powers by public officials and unintentional manslaughter.

Preliminary findings show that there were no irregularities during police activities. They were carried out in accordance with applicable procedures and legal provisions - assures the Wałbrzych police.

The cause of the 42-year-old's death is to be clarified by an autopsy.
