The Mainland Affairs Council announced the latest security updates for traveling to China, Hong Kong and Macao: the number of Chinese citizens who have lost contact or been restricted has reached 431. China’s Taiwan Affairs Office admitted that Taiwanese citizens who have worked for Amnesty International’s Taiwan branch will be subject to six-hour interrogation upon entry.

The Mainland Affairs Council released the "Weekly Report on the Safety of Chinese Traveling to China, Hong Kong and Macao" on the 5th. From January 1, 2020 to September 4, 2015, 431 Chinese nationals who went to China lost contact, were detained for questioning, or were suspected of having their personal freedom restricted, of which 5 new people were lost. In addition, China's Taiwan Affairs Office admitted that it conducts up to six hours of interrogation on Taiwanese citizens entering China simply because they have worked for the Taiwan branch of Amnesty International.

The Mainland Affairs Council pointed out that 431 Chinese nationals who went to China have lost contact, were detained for interrogation, or suspected of having their personal freedom restricted, of which 163 were missing (160 last week, 4 new people this week, 1 old case was transferred to other criminal cases), 36 people were detained for interrogation (no increase), and 232 people were suspected of being detained by China (230 people last week, 1 new person was added this week, and 1 person was transferred from the missing case).

In addition, China's Taiwan Affairs Office admitted that Taiwanese people who had worked for Amnesty International's Taiwan branch were subject to six-hour interrogations when entering China. It accused Amnesty International of being a "pawn of anti-China forces" and falsely claimed that the interrogations were "reasonable and legal."

Liang Wenjie, deputy chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council, used this as an example to warn the Chinese people that the CCP has extended censorship to the legal activities of Taiwanese people in Taiwan, which is a very serious threat to Taiwan's democratic system. Please do not ignore this issue.

Liang Wenjie said that the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council acknowledged this matter in order to get Taiwanese people to start self-censorship in an attempt to create a chilling effect. The purpose of the CCP is to make Chinese people fearful and hesitant before participating in normal groups and activities, so that everyone has a "little police chief" in their heart.

Liang Wenjie further explained that Amnesty International has long promoted human rights in Taiwan and supported prisoners of conscience during the period of white terror and authoritarian rule. It has made significant contributions to the history of Taiwan's democratic development. The CCP positions Amnesty International as a so-called anti-China vanguard, but Amnesty International is not anti-China. It is opposed to the CCP's "authoritarian rule", which the CCP cannot tolerate.

Liang Wenjie emphasized that the Mainland Affairs Council has well-founded warnings about the risks of traveling to mainland China, and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council has publicly admitted its atrocities. No one should help the CCP whitewash its crimes.
