A 45-year-old Tainan woman died after having her eye bags removed during an aesthetic surgery. Her family sued the clinic for wrongful death.

A 45-year-old woman surnamed Li went to a medical aesthetics clinic in Tainan City's Central and Western District to have her eye bags removed on August 26. After she was anesthetized, she suddenly had difficulty breathing. The doctor saw that her abdomen was swollen and inserted a nasogastric tube first, and then called an ambulance to take her to the hospital for rescue. Ms. Li was found to have severe stomach bleeding and needed surgery. She was hospitalized for about 11 days and passed away after extubation. Ms. Li's family questioned the clinic for medical negligence and filed a wrongful death lawsuit on the 6th. The police requested the prosecutor to conduct an examination and conduct an elective autopsy to clarify the cause of death.

It is understood that Ms. Li was unmarried and worked in the real estate industry during her lifetime. She was usually lively and loved to look beautiful. She had undergone micro-plastic surgery and injected hyaluronic acid on her face in the past. Recently, she wanted to have her eye bags removed. On August 26, she went to a medical aesthetics clinic in the Central and Western District to have her eye bags removed. However, she developed difficulty breathing, facial swelling and physical discomfort after the anesthesia injection. Upon seeing this, the clinic doctor first inserted a nasogastric tube for emergency treatment.

Ms. Li’s cousin asked the clinic about the first aid process. After receiving first aid at the clinic, Ms. Li’s condition continued to deteriorate rapidly. The clinic called 119 and called the fire station ambulance to send her to a large hospital for emergency treatment. After Ms. Li was sent to the adult hospital, it was discovered that she had a perforation in her stomach and was bleeding heavily, requiring surgery. The hospital found Li's brother through the police and agreed to perform surgery. However, after the operation, Ms. Li was still awake and passed away due to organ failure and extubation in the early morning of the 6th.

Ms. Li’s cousin said that Ms. Li’s abdominal abrasions and contusions had been sutured before, and she had received anesthesia. She did not have any allergic reactions. She did not believe that anesthesia factors caused her coma. As for Ms. Li’s gastric perforation and massive bleeding, she suspected that the medical aesthetic clinic’s first aid process was negligent. Li's family recently went to a temple to seek God's guidance. After learning that she was unwilling to die for this, they decided to go to the police station to file a wrongful death charge against the doctor and nurse at the medical aesthetic clinic.

The clinic also appointed a lawyer to provide the police with information on Ms. Li's medical treatment, including the amount of anesthesia and first aid methods, and explained her obligation to provide adequate treatment and first aid during the process. The police in the jurisdiction requested the prosecutor for an examination on the 6th and decided to perform an autopsy on the afternoon of the 8th to clarify the cause of death.
