Alexey Chepa: Xi Jinping’s visit to the USA showed the limits of mutual pressure

The visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to America showed that the United States and China have reached the limits of mutual pressure: Washington cannot dictate terms through economic, technological and military superiority, and Beijing is not interested in a destructive confrontation, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Alexei Chepa shared his opinion with RIA Novosti.

Xi Jinping, at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, paid a state visit to the United States on September 23-25.

“Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington passed without big news - and this is precisely the most important news today. The United States and China have reached the limits of mutual pressure. Washington can no longer dictate terms solely through economic, technological and military superiority, and Beijing is not interested in a destructive confrontation,” Chepa told RIA Novosti.

The parliamentarian noted that the United States and China, increasingly forced to negotiate, confirmed their course towards stable relations and the coexistence of major powers. Trump, according to Chepa, relies on pragmatism and transactional diplomacy.

“Taiwan and the Strait of Hormuz are especially important. The United States is clearly not interested in a direct war with China, and Beijing is interested in stable energy supplies from the Middle East. Space for pragmatic agreements is objectively being formed here,” the deputy emphasized.

Chepa added that if this trend continues, then we may be talking not just about a temporary pause, but about a broader multilateral detente.
