The Changhua County Teachers Association and Changhua County Teachers Professional Union held the "Education Policy Symposium for County Magistrate and County Council Candidates" today (13th) at the Shengcai Grandview Hotel in Yuanlin City. Among them, Wei Pingzheng, a candidate for county magistrate, proposed a policy of "legal support and an end to abusive lawsuits", advocating that the county government provide professional legal resources to assist frontline teachers in handling campus legal disputes. Chen Suyue said that policy formulation should listen to the voices of frontline teachers and solve problems such as insufficient manpower and administrative burdens at the teaching site, so that teachers can concentrate on teaching and students can learn with peace of mind.
The symposium invited three candidates for Changhua County Magistrate, Chen Suyue, Wei Pingzheng and Qiu Jianfu, to express their political opinions on education and jointly sign a commitment letter on education policy. The letter of commitment covers 13 demands, including replenishing formal teachers and administrative manpower, reducing class sizes in elementary and middle schools year by year, avoiding equal selection of principals, holding discussions with teacher groups twice a year, increasing the after-school care hourly fee for elementary schools to 480 yuan, reducing the teacher-student ratio in kindergarten classes to 1:6, deploying double teachers in classes, and protecting teachers’ professional autonomy and labor rights.
