The Russian National Guard confirmed the death of employees due to an avalanche in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria. However, the department denied that they were fighters of the elite Vityaz special forces unit, as previously reported by the media and Telegram channels. According to TASS calculations, the death of climbers in the Bezengi gorge was the largest in Russia in a quarter of a century. The Russian National Guard made a statement about the death of the climbers

The agency confirmed that some of the avalanche victims were National Guard members, but called the information that they served in a specific special unit, as reported by a number of Telegram channels, unreliable.

Based on the tragedy, the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) opened a criminal case under Article 293 (“Negligence”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

All Vityaz fighters escaped

According to Shot, all employees of the elite Vityaz Special Operations Center survived an avalanche in Kabardino-Balkaria.

They held training camps with climbers in the mountains. The Telegram channel notes that among the victims are fighters from other units of the Russian Guard. So far, 16 servicemen have been rescued, 13 have died.

The rapper Makan serves in the “Vityaz” unit, but he was not at the training camp in the mountains.

The death of a group of climbers during an avalanche in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria became the most massive death in Russia in a quarter of a century. The tragedy occurred in the Bezengi Gorge on September 6, when the climbers were on Mount Mizhirgi.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the group of climbers caught in an avalanche in the Bezengi Gorge consisted of 33 people. More than 50 emergency personnel are on site.
