Russia participated in the exhibition with a wide range of aviation and defense industries, with a presence that reflects the importance of the Egyptian market and the extended Moscow-Cairo partnership, especially in the field of military and technical cooperation that dates back decades.
The fifth generation Su-57E fighter topped the Russian exhibits in the static display arena, where it appeared for the first time in front of the Egyptian public, along with two unmanned platforms: the S-71M, known as “Monochrome,” and the “S-71K,” known as “Kofir.”
The Su-57E presented an air show as part of the exhibition's dynamic program, led by Sukhoi's chief pilot and test pilot Sergey Bogdan, who demonstrated the fighter's capabilities to participants and visitors.
Journalist Anna Knischenko, who followed the exhibition's activities, quoted Bogdan talking about the air show program, noting the interest that the Russian fighter received during the events.
The Su-57 belongs to the fifth generation of multi-mission fighters, and is designed to carry out a wide range of air missions, while employing advanced technologies in sensor, battle management and stealth systems. The Su-57E represents the version designated for export abroad.
The Russian presence was not limited to the fifth generation fighter, as Moscow also displayed the advanced combat training aircraft "Yak-130M", which was equipped with an aerial radar with an active electronic scanning array "Avazar", in addition to defense and reconnaissance systems.
These updates aim to enhance the capabilities of the Yak-130M and expand its use among partner countries, including the possibility of employing it in light combat aviation missions, which may make it an option for a number of countries in Africa and the Middle East.
In the face of one of the most prominent modern air threats, Russia also displayed the TKA B-1167 system, known as “Byzon,” which is a combat unit dedicated to dealing with air targets, equipped with four machine guns, and with the capabilities to detect, track, and identify drones and then destroy them independently.
The importance of these systems is highlighted in light of the increasing spread of drones and their use in targeting military sites and vital installations, which has made combating drones and protecting infrastructure one of the main areas in the development of modern defense systems.
The El Alamein Aviation and Space Exhibition comes within the framework of Egypt's efforts to strengthen its position as a regional center for the aviation and space industry and host international events related to this sector, while the Russian participation gives Moscow an opportunity to display the latest products of its aerospace industries in front of military and civilian delegations from the region and beyond.
Over the course of three days, the exhibition brought together air displays and static displays of a number of the latest aircraft and technologies, while the Russian presence reflected the transition of participation from displaying traditional aircraft to presenting an integrated system that includes fifth-generation fighters, combat training aircraft, unmanned platforms, and solutions for confronting drones.
