A tripartite summit in El Alamein and an airshow: Egyptian moves to strengthen regional partnerships and develop defense industries

A tripartite summit was held between Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, in the city of El Alamein in northwestern Egypt on Tuesday, in a move that experts and analysts say highlights Cairo’s keenness to diversify its relations and partnerships with all countries and continue its “strategic balance” diplomacy.

During the summit in which Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis participated, the three countries stressed the centrality of the partnership and the commitment to its continuation, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.

Al-Sisi described this partnership as “a role model for regional cooperation aimed at achieving stability and development in the Eastern Mediterranean region, stressing the importance of continuing to work to advance constructive cooperation within the framework of the tripartite mechanism.”

The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the trade and investment fields, energy, tourism, education and culture sectors, as well as cooperation in the areas of immigration, work and the transfer of skilled Egyptian workers to the two countries.

In a separate context, the El Alamein International Aviation and Space Exhibition 2026, which opened on Tuesday, showed development in some Egyptian weapons and drones displayed by the Arab Organization for Industrialization, most notably the FL-750 suicide drone, the RD interceptor drone, and the Hamza-1 and 2 drone.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi opened the second edition of the exhibition, which continues until Thursday, with the participation of more than 260 companies and exhibitors from various countries of the world, in addition to the presence of more than 100 official delegations representing about 80 countries.
