The Iranian Parliament Speaker sends a sarcastic message to the US Treasury Secretary regarding oil prices

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf sent a letter to US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent, asking him to monitor crude oil futures prices, due to the rapid decline in strategic oil reserves and the unprecedented rise in bond yields.

Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf published a message, on Thursday evening, through his official account on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), in which he addressed the US Secretary of the Treasury, in which he said: “Watch carefully the price of Oman’s oil futures, US government bond yields, and the level of strategic oil reserves,” according to what was reported by the semi-official Iranian Mehr News Agency.

The head of Iran's negotiating delegation added: "Oh hero! Use all your power to intervene in the futures price of oil! Because the entire future of your career depends on it. Or continue to withdraw oil from strategic reserves beyond the dangerous limit, and watch the collapse of salt caverns for storing oil as a result of the sharp decline in stocks, or resort to the gods of Texas salt, and pray that the storage wells do not collapse. The world bought popcorn while watching you," he said.

Qalibaf accompanied his post with a cartoon bearing a picture of the US Secretary of the Treasury with one of his feet slipping off a rock, and commented on it by saying: “You are here, Jamil.”

Iran, exhausted by years of sanctions and struggling under the burden of war, faces a new test, as US President Donald Trump has threatened further economic restrictions on Iran.

Trump said that the United States will exert more financial pressure on Iran to “crush” its economy, as reaching an agreement to end the war continues to falter.

Baqir Qalibaf attacked US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant because of a blog post he recently published about the conditions of the Iranian people and how Tehran is squandering money abroad.

Besant said in the blog post he published on his page on the X platform (formerly Twitter): “At a time when the Iranian people are struggling to provide basic needs, the corrupt regime continues to waste huge sums of money abroad.”
