Volunteers rescued three bears from an underground menagerie in Dagestan

Volunteers from the Dino zoo center from the Volgograd region went to Dagestan and rescued three bears from an underground menagerie. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Mash Gore”.

Animal volunteers arrived in Derbent on May 31. The seizure of the three bears was pre-agreed with local police and scheduled for June 1, but nothing happened on the appointed day. As Dino said, it was all due to bureaucratic obstacles - officials delayed completing the paperwork. But the volunteers did not retreat, and on June 4 they managed to pick up the animals.

In March 2026, Dino employees already removed five exhausted lions from the Derbent “zoo”. A participant in that operation, Tatish Shermamadov, still remembers the look of the bear, which followed them with its eyes from the tiny window of its concrete cell. Then the bears were left - there were no conditions for keeping them. Now new enclosures have been built at Dino, so the team returned for them.

Foxes, wolves, raccoon dogs and porcupines are still waiting for rescue. They are also planned to be picked up, but first everything needs to be prepared for their arrival.
