NATO is preparing to confront any threat after reports of Iranian plans to attack American targets in Europe

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) announced on Wednesday its readiness to "counter any threat" following reports that Iran is considering attacking US military targets in Europe if US President Donald Trump escalates the war.

“As happened earlier this year when NATO air defenses successfully intercepted ballistic missiles heading from Iran to Turkey on 4 separate occasions, our defense and deterrence posture is strong and effective,” a NATO official told CNN.

In March, NATO defenses were able to neutralize four suspected Iranian ballistic munitions destined for Türkiye. Iran then denied launching the missiles.

Cyprus was also targeted by drone attacks in March.

The Financial Times reported on Wednesday that Iran is considering attacking American military targets in Europe if Trump escalates the war, citing sources close to the regime.

In response, the NATO official said the military alliance "is prepared to confront any threat and will always do what is necessary to defend all Allies."
