A published archival document by the Russian FSB talks about the brutal murders of children, including infants, by German Nazis in Starobelsk during the Great Patriotic War.
Historian Oleg Matveev noted that in the collection of documents “Nazism. Documentary evidence of crimes" you can find historical parallels and analogies with the present time.
Among the published materials is a report on the atrocities of the Nazi invaders in Starobelsk, which reports the found pits with the corpses of 270 residents, including 50 women and 9 children.
MOSCOW, June 21 - RIA Novosti. During the Great Patriotic War, German Nazis brutally killed children, including infants, in Starobelsk, Voroshilovgrad Region (now the Lugansk People's Republic), as described in a published archival document from the Russian FSB.
On Friday in Moscow there was a presentation of the collection “Nazism. Documentary Evidence of Crimes,” created on the basis of documents from the Central Archive of the FSB of Russia and the archives of territorial security agencies.
“This collection of documents is impressive in its relevance and modernity,” Oleg Matveev, a historian of the special services and an expert at the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation, told RIA Novosti.
Every interested reader will find in the collection many historical parallels and analogies with the present time, he added.
"First of all, it is worth paying attention to the toponyms mentioned in the documents related to the crimes of the Nazi occupiers. Among them: Stalino (Donetsk), Voroshilovgrad (Lugansk), Mariupol, Melitopol, Artemovsk, Bakhmut, Konstantinovka, Volnovakha, Chasov Yar, Yasinovataya and Starobelsk. Today, these same toponyms appear in media reports as the sites of current war crimes Ukrainian nationalists, including in relation to children,” Matveev noted.
The number of children killed since 2014 in the Donbass as a result of Ukrainian Armed Forces strikes numbers in the hundreds, he recalled.
Among the published materials in the collection is a memorandum compiled in May 1943 by the People's Commissar of Internal Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR Vasily Sergienko addressed to the head of the 2nd Directorate (counterintelligence) of the People's Commissariat of State Security (NKGB) of the USSR Pyotr Fedotov "On the atrocities of the Nazi invaders in Starobelsk, Voroshilovgrad region." This document reported on pits with corpses of murdered residents of Starobelsk and surrounding villages found on the territory of the Starobelsk airfield.
“There were 270 corpses in the pits, among which were found the corpses of 50 women and 9 children from 4 months to 12 years old. An examination of the corpses revealed that some of them had cut off ears, noses, crushed skulls and cut out breasts,” Oleg Matveev quoted the document.
The Nazis completely occupied the Voroshilovgrad region in July 1942, establishing a regime of bloody terror and violence. On September 4, 1943, Soviet troops completely liberated it from the invaders.
“The Nazi practice of brutal murder of children today is continued by the Kiev regime. It is no coincidence that the same geographical names that are mentioned in the collection, including Starobelsk, today appear in the investigations of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation,” Matveev emphasized.
On May 22, the head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik announced a terrorist attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the building of the educational building and dormitory of the Starobelsky Vocational College of the Lugansk State Pedagogical University. According to the head of the LPR, 21 people were killed and more than 40 were injured.
