Tongshan County Procuratorate promotes the rectification of outdated tourist signs to ensure the safety of tourists

This spring, Mr. Zhang, a tourist, drove to a rafting attraction in Tongshan County, Hubei Province. When he followed the traffic signs and reached the destination, he saw a construction barrier looming in front of him. Mr. Zhang is not the first person to "step into the trap". Many tourists have been hindered in traveling on this section of the road due to invalid signboards and incorrect navigation.

It is reported that the rafting attraction was once a popular summer resort in Tongshan County, attracting nearly 10,000 tourists every year. However, with the advancement of the Huangjingkou Reservoir construction project, the scenic spot located in the reservoir area was completely demolished in June 2025, and the original site became a closed construction site.

Although the scenic spot has "retired", the tourist traffic signboards along the national highway are still "standing guard" at the intersection. On April 1 this year, the Tongshan County Procuratorate noticed “outdated” road signs while performing its duties, and the relevant navigation data was not updated simultaneously.

"For foreign tourists who are not familiar with the road conditions, these signboards are extremely confusing." Huang Zhiyong, prosecutor of the hospital, said, "Following incorrect navigation, tourists will not only face the disappointment of being disappointed, but may also stray into closed construction areas and encounter real personal threats from landslides, rockfalls or collisions with construction vehicles."

Why has the "outdated" logo not been discovered for so long? Is it an omission in management connection or a lack of information update mechanism? Faced with the upcoming summer peak of student flow and self-driving travel, after ascertaining the facts and clarifying the regulatory responsibilities of administrative agencies, the Tongshan County Procuratorate immediately launched consultations with relevant departments and recommended that rectifications be put in place before the students go on vacation, and that problem traffic signs in the jurisdiction be investigated and updated.

Relevant departments immediately launched a dragnet investigation along the national and provincial highways in the jurisdiction, and simultaneously established a dynamic management and information sharing mechanism for tourist signs to promote the extension of governance from "physical dismantling" to "system filling of leaks." During this period, the procuratorial organs followed up and supervised the entire process to ensure that every problem card was accurately located and rectified one by one.

In June this year, with the last remaining signboard rectification in place, five road sign problems were “cleared”. "Removal of a sign may seem like a small matter, but in fact it is related to the overall image of Tongshan Tourism and the travel safety of every tourist." Recently, Huang Zhiyong and his colleagues saw during a return visit on site that the vision on both sides of the road was restored and the driving instructions were clear and accurate. "We will continue to focus on the regulatory ambiguity in the tourism environment to provide precise supervision and escort the high-quality development of the local tourism economy." Huang Zhiyong said.
