The Kuomintang Hsinchu City Party Headquarters recommends revoking He Zhiyong’s party membership

The Kuomintang is on the move! He Zhiyong, the former spokesperson of the Kuomintang and an adjunct assistant professor at Tsinghua University who registered to run for mayor of Hsinchu without a party membership, was held a disciplinary meeting by the KMT Hsinchu City Party Headquarters today. After discussion and voting at the meeting, most resolutions recommended that He Zhiyong's party membership be revoked, and the relevant information has been submitted to the central government. The follow-up still needs to be reviewed by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Wang Zhihao, chairman of the Municipal Party Committee, said that after the discussion at the disciplinary examination meeting, after considering He Zhiyong’s past contributions to the Kuomintang and his academic experience, he believed that it was not yet necessary to expel him from the party. After voting, the majority was in favor of revoking his party membership. There is still a difference between expulsion from the party and revocation of party membership. According to relevant regulations, those who have been expelled from the party can only restore their party membership after 6 years, and those who have revoked their party membership can only restore it after 4 years.

As for the reason for the revocation of party membership, Wang Zhihao said that the Central Standing Committee of the Kuomintang has passed a cooperation agreement with the People’s Party to jointly support the re-election of the current mayor Gao Hongan. The Kuomintang did not nominate He Zhiyong, but He Zhiyong still registered to run for Hsinchu mayor on his own, which is a violation of party discipline. The Party Headquarters has submitted the resolution of the Disciplinary Examination Committee to the Central Committee, which will be scheduled for review by the Central Committee on Disciplinary Examination. After the resolution of the Central Committee's Disciplinary Examination Committee is passed, it will be sent to the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The final decision of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will prevail.

He Zhiyong said that when he registered to run for Hsinchu mayor, he would accept any punishment from the Kuomintang. The result was not surprising.
