NEW DELHI, September 11 – RIA Novosti. Russia is discussing with India, including large private Indian companies, specific sites for the joint construction of new nuclear power plant units in India using Russian technologies, said Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Rosatom state corporation.

“No official decision has been made yet, discussions are ongoing,” Likhachev told reporters.

He recalled that India had previously adopted the law “On the Sustainable Use and Development of Nuclear Energy to Transform India” (SHANTI Act). This law replaced earlier laws governing the implementation of nuclear energy projects in India. The new act allows private companies in India to engage in nuclear energy, Likhachev noted.

Open Questions

  • ?What specific sites are being considered for construction?
  • ?Which private Indian companies are involved in the negotiations?
