Kadyrov called for changing the appearance of men and the behavior of young people in Chechnya

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, addressed the residents of the republic. At the meeting, he raised issues of the appearance of men and the behavior of young people, and also called on women to take into account local traditions.

At a meeting with the leaders of the security bloc of Chechnya, Kadyrov said that some men began to wear too long beards and rolled up trousers, while not observing other religious traditions.

According to the head of the republic, many of these people do not attend mosques and collective Friday prayers, but spend time on the streets. Kadyrov noted that their appearance is beginning to be perceived by young people as a role model.

Separately, he addressed women. The head of Chechnya called on them to adhere to Islamic norms and not to adopt Arabic clothing. In particular, he spoke out against the burqa, noting that it was not traditionally worn in the republic.

Kadyrov himself previously spoke about his beard

The topic of appearance and religious traditions has already appeared in public statements by the head of Chechnya. In May 2023, Kadyrov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin drew attention to his beard during a meeting of the Council on Interethnic Relations in Pyatigorsk.

Later, according to Kadyrov, during a personal meeting he explained to the president why he decided to grow it. The politician associated this with the period of the special military operation and noted that some Chechen fighters were doing the same.

Previously, Kadyrov also entered into a public discussion about the permissibility of beards for military personnel. In January 2023, he criticized State Duma deputy Lieutenant General Viktor Sobolev, who spoke about the need to comply with the requirements of the military regulations regarding appearance. And he asked supporters of the ban on wearing a beard in the army to be sent to the front line.

Then he suggested that Russian military personnel were very surprised by Sobolev’s statements.

“They had no idea that a dangerous enemy was lurking in their ranks - facial hair! We throw down the machine guns, go and shave, while the Nazis wait on the sidelines, chattering about some of their fascist affairs. After all, in every trench there is a tap with hot water, shaving foam is given out in the morning at the bathhouse formation, razors were issued a month in advance,” Kadyrov pointed out ironically.

In addition, Kadyrov previously voiced his position regarding women's clothing. In 2024, he opposed a complete ban on religious clothing and at the same time spoke out against women wearing burqas that hide their faces. At the same time, he called those who demanded to ban the hijab his personal enemies.
