Seoul City promotes public hearing to discuss raising free subway age to 70 and free riding on buses

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is raising the subway free age to 70 and holding a public hearing to discuss the introduction of free bus riding for seniors.

The city of Seoul announced on the 22nd that it had received an official document titled ‘Proposal for a public hearing on public transportation policy for the elderly’ from the Seoul Metropolitan Government Association of the Korean Senior Citizens Association.

As requested by the Senior Citizens' Association, the city plans to jointly hold related public hearings and allow various citizens to participate and present their opinions.

Detailed schedule and location will be announced later on the Seoul Metropolitan Government website (seoul.go.kr).

Previously, on the 19th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and the president of the Seoul Federation of Korean Senior Citizens Association met to discuss transportation welfare policies for the elderly.

Recently, the Seoul City Council passed an ordinance to expand public transportation fare support for the elderly to buses, which passed the city council's transportation committee and is about to be voted on at the plenary session.
