Shri Ram Neupane, a member of Nepal's National Independence Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) and an engineer who participated in the rescue operation, said that rescuers learned that there might be other people in the tunnel and continued the search.

The Nepal Army and the Armed Police Force stepped up rescue operations after hearing the sound and tried to reach the trapped people.

"The rescue team shouted, 'Don't panic, we are here to save you,' and the people in the tunnel responded 'OK,'" Nopani said.

Agence France-Presse reported that the Minister of Energy and the Minister of Home Affairs of the Nepali government confirmed that two hydropower workers were rescued today.

Large-scale flash floods and landslides occurred on the border between Nepal and China's Tibet on August 26, which was probably caused by glacier collapse.

The Associated Press reported that according to the Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal, at least 557 workers at the Trisuli 3A hydropower project are missing, and about 115 people are believed to be trapped in the main tunnel.
