Taichung City's three incineration plants will be repaired in the second half of the year, and the Environmental Protection Bureau launches a cross-plant diversion mechanism

The daily amount of garbage in Taichung City is about 2,300 metric tons, and nearly 2,100 metric tons are incinerated by the city's three incineration plants: Wuri, Houli and Wenshan. The three incineration plants operate for a long time throughout the year and undergo annual maintenance twice a year. In the second half of the year, the three plants are expected to start in October. The Wuri plant took the lead in starting repairs on October 16, which lasted from 20 to 35 days. The Environmental Protection Bureau stated that garbage can still be brought into the plant for incineration, and the three plants took turns to provide support. They also started to temporarily store the garbage in a nearby landfill next to the incinerator. After repairs, the garbage will be transported back to the plant for incineration.

The Environmental Protection Bureau stated that the annual maintenance of three incineration plants will be carried out in the second half of this year. The Wuri plant will be the first to start from October 16 to November 3, Houli plant from November 2 to 30, and the Wenshan plant from November 22 to December 31. Due to the annual maintenance of the Wuri Incineration Plant in March this year, a large amount of garbage and food waste was diverted to the Houli Incineration Plant. As a result, the Houli Incineration Plant had long queues and garbage trucks stretching for hundreds of meters. Drivers had to wait for about two hours to enter the plant. It was criticized for being even more congested than during the food waste chaos at the end of last year.

The Environmental Protection Bureau pointed out that in addition to strengthening the maintenance of various equipment during the annual maintenance, it will also activate a cross-factory diversion and dispatching mechanism to flexibly adjust the configuration of garbage entering the factory based on the actual processing capacity and garbage storage conditions of each factory. During the annual maintenance period, garbage that cannot enter the factory for processing will be temporarily stored according to the overall processing capacity and storage space, and will be transported back for incineration in sequence after the annual maintenance is completed.

The Environmental Protection Bureau further stated that during the annual maintenance period, it will closely monitor the traffic flow and operation conditions of each factory, and take timely measures such as diversion and on-site traffic guidance to reduce the impact on garbage removal operations and surrounding traffic; at the same time, it will implement factory entry control and on-site inspections to take into account the safety of factory operations and smooth operation.

The Environmental Protection Bureau emphasized that the three incineration plants in Taichung City operate 24 hours a day to incinerate Taichung City's garbage. They are in a high-load operation state for a long time. Regular annual maintenance is an important task to maintain the stability of the equipment and extend its service life. In order to ensure the proper operation of the incineration plants, in addition to performing maintenance on weekdays, annual maintenance operations are performed twice a year to ensure the smooth operation of important equipment.
