Taiwan's judicial independence rating drops. Chung Chia-bin blames Blue and White's paralysis of the Constitutional Court as the main reason

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance released the latest report "Global Democracy in 2026", which showed that Taiwan's judicial independence has been reduced from "high performance" to "medium performance", prompting criticism from Kuomintang legislator Hsu Yu-chen, "the judiciary cannot have color, let alone the surname Lai." In response, Democratic Progressive Party legislator Chung Jiabin submitted a report today (16th) to slap the face, pointing out that Blue and White teamed up to shut down the Constitutional Court, which lowered Taiwan's score.

Chung Jiabin said that democracy and freedom are values ​​that Taiwan is proud of and shares with the world, and judicial independence is also a boundary that the government and all walks of life adhere to. In this assessment report, Taiwan ranked seventh in the world in the "Citizen Participation" project, proving the vitality of Taiwan's democracy and civil society.

Zhong Jiabin pointed out that although the ranking of the "judicial independence" item has dropped, the evaluation report did not reveal the key factors that affect the score. However, the Kuomintang directly pointed the finger at the DPP government and President Lai Qingde, and even slapped the label of "judiciary color" and "judicial injustice", which is completely insinuation and bloody trolling.

Chung Jiabin pointed out that looking back at the "2026 Global Freedom Report" released by Freedom House this year, Taiwan received the highest rating of full marks in the "Does the judiciary follow due process" item; and in the question "Whether there is an independent judiciary", the report clearly pointed out that because Blue and White teamed up to boycott and veto the justice personnel case, the Constitutional Tribunal was unable to reach a quorum and had to be forced to shut down, resulting in Taiwan being deducted points.

Zhong Jiabin said that it can be seen that the Kuomintang abused its power to paralyze the judiciary by virtue of its majority in Congress, causing judicial independence to be damaged. As the initiator, the Kuomintang must bear the greatest responsibility; but now it does not know how to reflect and let the evildoers file the complaint first, which will only make the international community laugh.
