Wonju City holds ceremony commemorating the 76th anniversary of the Korean War... Honoring the sacrifice and dedication of war veterans

Parallel campaign to spread veterans culture… Focus on expanding courtesy and support for people of national merit

(Wonju = Yonhap News) Reporter Lim Bo-yeon = Wonju City announced on the 24th that it will hold a ceremony commemorating the 76th anniversary of the Korean War on the 25th.

About 400 people, including veterans of the Korean War, bereaved families, and members of veterans organizations, will attend the ceremony to reflect on the lessons of the war and honor the sacrifice and dedication of veterans.

The event begins with the entry and placement of the war flag to commemorate the dedication of the United Nations (UN) participating countries that fought together for the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea, followed by a commemorative speech and a retrospective speech by Son Eui-soo, president of the Wonju branch of the Korean War Veterans Association.

In particular, we set aside time to pass on to the bereaved families the four Hwarang Military Merit Medals that were not awarded despite their meritorious actions during the Korean War, to enhance the honor of patriotic heroes and remind them of their spirit of sacrifice for the nation.

Previously, in celebration of Patriots and Veterans Month, the city is striving to spread the culture of veterans by promoting various veterans projects, such as the veterans flower badge campaign, veterans message cup holder campaign, and children's Rose of Sharon wreath-laying event.

An official from Wonju City said, “Today’s Republic of Korea was built on the sacrifice and dedication of war veterans,” and added, “We will do our best to strengthen the respect and support for veterans and their families and to pass on their noble spirit.”
