The Wall Street Journal reported on the 18th that multiple U.S. officials said that President Trump has urged his staff to quickly arrange a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un this fall, reviving the "Trump-Kim meeting" that used dramatic diplomatic channels during his first term to try to persuade Kim Jong-un to give up nuclear weapons.
Officials said Trump has privately discussed arranging a private meeting with Kim during his next trip to Asia, possibly during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' meeting in Shenzhen, China, in November.
The report pointed out that there are currently no plans to formally arrange a meeting. Due to the unpredictable situation in Iran, Trump hopes to hold the "Trump-Kim Summit" again to deliver major diplomatic results.
