Russia wants to increase the age limit for military service for women

In Russia they wanted to increase the service age limit for female military personnel to 50 years. The Cabinet of Ministers submitted the bill to the State Duma for consideration, as follows from the electronic database of the lower house of parliament.

Today, the age limit for military service for Russian women is 45 years. As noted in the explanatory note, existing parameters do not always allow one to serve the necessary time to receive a pension and other support measures.

As an example, cases are cited when a woman enters into a military contract at the age of 25-30, and as a result, she does not have enough years of service to be provided with housing and a pension due to the fact that such benefits are not established in the place where she serves.

In particular, the authors of the draft law pointed out that in the conditions of a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine, the majority of the personnel of medical units are female military personnel.

It is clarified that the law, if adopted by the State Duma and signed by the President of Russia, may come into force on January 1, 2027.
