Chinese citizen Lu Haitao was rescued 11 days after the "8·26" landslide disaster in Nepal

China News Service, Kathmandu, September 5 (Reporter Cui Nan) On the 5th local time, 11 days after the "8·26" mudslide disaster in Nepal, Chinese citizen Lu Haitao was rescued in an engineering tunnel in Resuwa County, Nepal.

After being rescued, Lu Haitao was transferred by helicopter to the Nepal Army General Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment. Major General Bhandari, Director of the General Administration of Health of the Nepalese Army, said that Lu Haitao grabbed some objects on the top of the tunnel when the disaster occurred, maintained a strong sense of survival during the long period of being trapped, and never gave up his confidence in being rescued. With good physical fitness, he finally survived and arrived at the General Hospital of the Nepalese Army at around 14:00 that day.

At 15:41 on the same day, with the approval of the Nepalese army, reporters from China News Agency and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming entered the ward to visit Lu Haitao. Currently, Lu Haitao's vital signs are stable and his consciousness is clear.

Zhang Maoming said in an interview that the Chinese Embassy in Nepal attaches great importance to the safety of Chinese citizens in Nepal. Since the "8·26" mudslide disaster, the embassy has maintained close communication and coordination with the Nepali side and made every effort to rescue Chinese citizens affected by the disaster, including personnel from Chinese-funded enterprises, tourists in Nigeria and other scattered migrant workers. The embassy also maintains close contact with relevant domestic departments. The country is paying close attention to the disaster in Nepal and has dispatched tunnel rescue experts and experts in DNA and forensic identification to support Nepal's disaster relief work.

Zhang Maoming said that in the next stage, the Chinese Embassy will continue to work closely with Nigeria to make every effort to safeguard the safety of Chinese citizens in Nigeria and do a good job in the aftermath of missing persons. "We are all deeply excited that Lu Haitao was successfully rescued today. Bhandari also introduced that the Nepalese army is still continuing its rescue work. The Nepalese Army General Hospital received two people rescued from the tunnel on the 4th, and has received two more people so far on the 5th. Since the disaster occurred, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal has maintained close and efficient collaboration with the Nepalese military.
