A cross-party delegation of Japanese lawmakers visited Taiwan on the 8th to seek to deepen diplomatic and defense cooperation

(Central News Agency, Tokyo, 6th, comprehensive foreign news report) The "Meeting of Japanese Parliamentarians Thinking about Peace and Stability in the Taiwan Strait", a cross-party group of Japanese parliamentarians, will send a visiting delegation composed of 7 Japanese parliamentarians from the Senate and the House of Representatives to visit Taiwan from the 8th to the 10th.

Japan's "Sankei Shimbun" reported that the visiting delegation is expected to visit the Presidential Office and hold talks with the person in charge of the National Security Council of the Presidential Office and senior officials from the foreign affairs and defense departments to seek to strengthen cooperation between Taiwan and Japan in the fields of diplomacy and defense.

The delegation is headed by Japanese Conservative Senator Haruo Kitamura and includes National Democratic Party Senator Yamada Yoshihiko, Japanese Reform Party Representatives Kaoru Nishida, Mitsuhiro Yokota and Miki Yoshie, as well as Senator Ishihira and Senator Umemura Mizuho of the Senate.

During the visit to Taiwan, the delegation will attend the "Taiwan-Japan Diplomacy and Defense Seminar" hosted by a think tank to exchange views with diplomacy and defense experts; it will also go to the Legislative Yuan to communicate with members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

Senator Shi Ping said that this visit to Taiwan "will go beyond general friendship and goodwill to explore the possibility and specific forms of strengthening diplomatic and defense cooperation with Taiwan."

The "Meeting of Members of Parliament Thinking About Peace and Stability in the Taiwan Strait" was established on June 15 and is currently continuing to hold relevant seminars.

China has imposed sanctions on Shi Ping since September last year, including banning him from entering China, on the grounds that he has strongly criticized China's response to Taiwan and Uyghur human rights issues and "repeatedly made false claims."
