MOSCOW, August 20 - RIA Novosti. More than 80% of Russians agree with the statement that the Russian flag evokes a feeling of pride, regardless of political statements, and over 90% of respondents consider themselves patriots, said Mikhail Mamonov, director of political research at the VTsIOM Analytical Center.
“82% (of respondents - ed.) agreed with the opinion that the Russian flag evokes a feeling of pride, regardless of political beliefs,” Mamonov said during the EISI round table on the topic “Tricolor as a symbol of unity: the meaning of the National Flag Day of Russia,” which takes place in the multimedia press center of the international media group “Russia Today.”
He also noted that the vast majority of respondents experience positive emotions when they see the Russian flag, while Russians have virtually no negative associations.
“Today, among our respondents, 90%, in some cases more, we can say that more than 90% of our compatriots define themselves as patriots of their country. If this feeling is formed, then, of course, there will be a high level of positive attitude towards our state symbols,” the expert emphasized.
Mamonov also said that 84% of Russian citizens agree that the Russian flag reminds everyone of a common history and a common future; there is no significant difference in this indicator in different age groups.
“It is not only the attitude towards the flag that is important, but also the practice and action: 71% of Russians reacted positively to the fact that some Russians have a flag at home and they hang it, for example, on the balcony, in the window during significant public holidays or some events,” he added.
In addition, according to him, 85% of parents in Russia have a positive attitude towards the practice of raising the flag in schools and consider it necessary to preserve it.
